ROADING BEGINS JUNE 3rd!

Fox Hunting is an exhilarating and beautiful sport. We want to share it with you. Take this opportunity to expose your horse to hounds and riding in a group and feel for yourself the joy of riding out with the Old Chatham Fox Hounds. All riding disciplines welcome. Join our huntsman exercising the hounds on the scenic dirt roads and fields of Old Chatham. Many riders use Roading to condition and introduce their horses to the hounds. There will be extra Field Leaders to help with all riding abilities.

All are welcome but please let us know if you plan on coming so we can plan accordingly. Length of ride: 1 1/2 -2 hours.

Capping Fee: Adults $25. Youth under 18 years $10.
Attire: ASTM certified riding helmet and appropriate footwear.
Bring Current proof of Negative Coggins for each horse you bring onsite (taken in last 12 months)

ROADING is Wednesdays and Saturdays until JULY 18th (No Roading July 4th- the Foxhounds & Beagles will be marching in the Old Chatham Square Parade)

Jack’s Field

The entrance to Jack’s field is on Reed Road just south of the intersection of Richmond Road in Valatie*.

* VERY IMPORTANT WHEN USING GPS: Select the town as Valatie (12184). There are roads with the same name in 2 neighboring towns and you will get lost.

Latitude/Longitude: (42.456695, -73.603254)

From the North (I 90): Exit 11E to Route 20 towards Nassau and go 5.4 miles. Turn right onto Route 203 and go 3 miles. Turn left onto County Route 32 and go 0.7 miles. Take the 1st road on the right (Bashford) which turns into a dirt road. Go 1.2 miles and turn left onto Richmond Road. After 0.5 miles take the first right onto Reed Road. The entrance to Jack’s field is 0.2 miles on the left.

From the South: From the circle in the Village of Chatham, go north on Route 66 for 4.5 miles. Turn right to stay onto Route 66 for another on 1.4 miles. Turn left onto Reed Road and go 1.6 miles. Jack’s Field will be on the right.

*Who is Jack? Jack Kingsley is a long time Master of Beagles with the Old Chatham Hunt Club. He graciously offers the use of his field for OCHC events.*

FAQs

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE? Be sure to arrive early. We move off right at the appointed hour, so everyone needs to be mounted and ready to go!

HOW FAST WILL WE GO? Riders will be grouped by riding ability and experience – let us know how you ride, when you register. We will work hard to place you in a comfortable “flight” or group.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Wear comfortable, seasonally appropriate riding clothes with an ASTM helmet and sturdy boots. Clean horse and tack will make you look smart! (Old Chatham has nice polo shirts – let us know, if you would like to buy one, and we will arrange to get one to you.)

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS! Please fill out the release waiver on line or print it and come with a signed copy that is legible and includes an emergency contact. Please show or text us a current coggins of each horse you bring.
